New Track - The Knight Arises

A brand new track is now up on youtube called "The Knight Arises".

This recording features stand in drummer Paul Hannon behind the kit. This also features former member Richie Donovan on guitar along with Bob Morgan and Johnny Mac.

It was recorded in Claycastle studios, Youghal, Cork by Warren Tivy and the Vocals and mixing was done by Owen Geaney at his Studio in  Nenagh, Tipperary.

This track was taken from an album that didnt get released but maybe it might in the future, who knows!!

Another track was also fully finished during the sessions and this again may be released, there is a live rehearsal of this other track already on youtube too.

The band is now on hiatus for a while but jaming sessions have been penciled in for the coming months with David Doyle, Johnny and hopefully Bob. If things come together we will indeed be back doing some gigs, some new tunage and also there may be a new addition to the line up (??)...

Our website is now down so any new posts & news will come through our blogspot here.

More announcements soon as we have them,
Lets Get The Groove on!!

Castero - The Return June 14th

The long awaited Return gig for Castero happened last Saturday night @ The Well Bar Nenagh,
the band had been off since last Octobers trip to Fibbers in Dublin.
For this show we also had 6 brand new tracks ready along with a few tracks off the last album "Revolutions".

Joining us on the night were Nenagh band Burn this Promise and Dublin band Electric Taurus.
We had an early set run through the day of the gig in the jamroom just to fine tune the new stuff.
Anticipation and nervous energy was evident for we would be playing our first show for almost 9 months, the chase is on!!

The lads hard at work packing up!!

First up on the night were Burn this Promise, local lads from Nenagh who are making good progress on the scene of late, the lads were joined on bass duties tonight by Kevin "Smiley" Bolger in place of Jonny who has family issues at the moment and whom we wish all the best  :)
Burn this Promise

The lads played a fine solid set and all in attendance were impressed by the boys!!

Next up were good mates of ours Electric Taurus, we have played with the lads on several occasions and they never fail to pound out their stoner/doom blues, lots of trippy/Spacey interludes and what a great band, the lads are promoting their current split release with Italys Prehistoric Pigs and its gaining great reviews from all over.
Electric Taurus

And now the time had come for Castero to unlease themselves and their new material to the public in attendance, tonight there was more than 70 + who had passed through the doors to watch all bands and that in itself is great to see, we all put long hours of hard work into what we do and its nice to get decent crowds in to support local Irish bands.

We Kicked off our set with new track "Til you Drown" and this set the tone for the rest of the night, its always great to play new stuff and the veins and adrenalin started to take control, we played one of our best gigs to date and the power and passion was there for all to see, we ripped it up Cazzie style!!
We also played 2 encores first one was Paranoid by Black Sabbath and we were joined by Tom Sayers on Rock and Roll by Led Zeppelin with Matt from ET and Johnny on backing vocals, most of the crowd also joined the stage for this tune and the place was going crazy, what a finish to a great night!!

Castero

Our thanks to all who came out and made this comeback gig a big success, to both bands for supporting us and playing great sets, we shall be continuing to get new material down for a forthcoming album next year and also we expect to play a few more shows this year so keep an eye out for us in a town near you ;)
Its all about the groove.....

FDJ Stoner metal from Ireland that very much mixes the old school and new school styles of metal then adds  a bit of celtic flair too round it off.Highly enjoyable. Like Metallica meets Sabbath on the way to a Thin Lizzy      gig!!Favorite track: Surrender of the Damned.

Stephen O' Connor Awesome Irish stoner that out Sabbaths Sabbath.

Bandcamp Review  (Sept 2013) -  "Castero are a 4 piece Heavy Rock band from Ireland, New album Revolutions released in June 2013. We have toured with bands such as Diamond Head, O/D Saxon and loads more. We are strongly influenced by bands such as Black Sabbath, Black Label Society, Down and Clutch."

The above 3 bands mentioned are huge influences on the doom/stoner community. I honesty cringe at times when I see that due to the fact that more times than none, bands more or less copy them. When I started to listen to Revolutions though, I could hear the influences but the band sets out to do their own thing and not be a copycat. Revolutions has a nice southern metal sound mixed with classic rock, a bit of the fuzzy/wah wah sound in Clutch, and the right tuning to make their guitars sing. "Too Much Sleep" has a killer solo at the end. Overall this is grade A material here.

Updates on the band, upcoming shows and new material.......

Castero have been on a brief hiatus from shows for a good few months now but  we are still working on new material for upcoming gigs.

The hiatus: Johnny had a back injury which stopped him from playing guitar and singing for a time, the band are now back working on new tracks, Johnny is back on vocals but not back on guitar until further down the line, hopefully not too much longer.

New Material: The bands new material focuses on heavy riff based stuff with different directions taken, lots of melody added both musically and vocally as we have had lots of time to improve on each track, the songs are inspired by our heroes and anti-heroes, a few of the tracks are just getting the finishing touches in the jam room over the next month or two and will be unleashed along with some old favourites in the set list at upcoming shows.

Upcoming events: As stated above we have been out of action since late last year on the live gig circuit but a few shows are in the pipeline over the summer starting with "Philfest PhilFest.Ireland" In Leitrim between June 27 - 29. This is a large scale festival with over 140 bands and performers and it looks to be a special event, we cant wait to play at this...there will also be a show maybe before Philfest and a couple of shows after, we will post these as they get confirmed on our facebook page, website Castero - Home etc.

So to conclude, Castero will be back with a louder bang come the summer with new tracks and eager to get back into the swing of playing Live.......!!!
